OpenAI wants your medical records because anxiety has a user base

Tens of millions of people already asked ChatGPT for health advice, and OpenAI saw that and said: cool, now hand over your medical records too.

They’re rolling out a Health section that can ingest your actual medical records and pull from Apple Health. Like your labs, meds, heart rate, sleep, steps, and the little “wow I’m dying” notes you type at 3:11am when your chest feels weird.

Translation

the most sensitive data on earth just got invited to live inside your favorite vibe-based autocomplete.

OpenAI’s pitch is the wholesome one. “Organize your info.” “Understand your results.” “Help you prep for doctor visits.” Translation: they want to be the middleman between you and your body, and middlemen don’t do charity — they do tolls.

The Number

tens of millions — that’s how many people already used this thing like a free urgent care with a God complex, except it’s trained on the internet, which is basically a group project where everyone copied off Reddit.

Best case, this becomes a life-saving assistant that notices patterns your rushed doctor missed because UnitedHealthcare gives them 7 minutes and a prayer. Worst case, it’s a privacy nightmare so efficient it deserves a plaque.

Because once your data is centralized, it’s not just about “can ChatGPT help?” It’s about who else comes sniffing around. Insurers. Employers. Data brokers. Lawyers. Hackers. Some intern who accidentally pastes your colonoscopy summary into the wrong Slack channel.

Meanwhile, Apple gets to keep playing “privacy saint” while quietly piping your health stats into yet another system because convenience is the real drug.

The Bottom Line

If your body becomes a dataset, don’t be shocked when someone tries to charge you rent for living in it.

TLDR

OpenAI’s giving ChatGPT a Health tab that slurps your medical records + Apple Health, which is either a miracle nurse or the most convenient privacy disaster ever invented.
